This town became a carnival
Painted masks cover our souls
The crooner's on the soapbox
The fire eaters have been drinking and spitting
Moonshine for days

Distorted mirrors hide the truth
And i knew that she saw it too
Fireworks sounded mayhem
She took me by the hand and then we
Left it all behind

She led me down a back alley way
Past the house of strange
And down the stairs
It ended at a hole in the wall
And before we jumped in she said

The hole led to a swampy grove
With lily pads and alligator roads
Her green eyes reflected the moon
And the frogs were singing doowop songs
All night long

At last our voices could be heard
While the sound of crickets took our words
Our bare feet held our morals
And the humidity made us float up to the sky

As we floated in the air we took off all our clothes
And our despair
Before the air turned to rain
She held me close and she said
